6 petitions for climate action

The news is full of reports of climate and nature risks: from heatwaves, to our struggling food supply, to the dangers to wildlife. While there are many small and meaningful steps we can take in our daily lives to support our environment, policymakers also need to take action to address the climate crisis.

One easy way to make a difference is to support the incredible work already being done by organisations and campaigners. Many of these are calling for policymakers to do more for climate action.

Here, we’ve rounded up some petitions you might be interested in supporting. We encourage you to do your own research, and sign up to support the campaigns that align with your values. 

1. Stop extreme weather destroying lives 

Extreme weather impacts us all, but especially vulnerable people. Friends of the Earth are calling for a National Adaptation Plan that provides real protection from the impacts of the climate emergency. Read more here.

2. Demand protection from deadly heatwaves 

Greenpeace are also campaigning for an urgent heat strategy, including safe work-place temperatures, and heat-proofed schools, hospitals and care homes.  Read more here.

3. Make wildfire prevention a national priority

National Trust is calling for nature to be protected from wildlifes, including greater support for Fire and Rescue Services. Read more here.

4. Hold a UK-wide briefing on climate and nature risks

The creators of the National Climate Briefing are asking for a televised emergency briefing on the climate and nature crisis, as an essential step to education the public and unlock the climate action that is needed. Read more here.

5. Secure our future

Zero Hour are asking for the government to meet the UK's international climate and nature commitments, stop new oil and gas, and pass the Nature and National Security Bill. Read more here.

6. Save UK fruits and vegetables

The UK must increase fruit and vegetable consumption while supporting British growers to produce food in ways that restore soil, protect nature and cut emissions. The Soil Association is calling for a bold, joined-up horticulture strategy that delivers healthy diets and a resilient food system. Read more here.
