What is Money Movers?
Launched in 2019, Money Movers is a peer-led initiative that empowers individuals to take climate action through their personal finances. With support from Friends of the Earth, people bring together small groups from their community to talk about how they can use their money to create the changes they want to see in the world, whether that be through their banking options, pensions, or investments. To date, Money Movers participants have moved over £3.3 million towards banking options that prioritise people and the planet –proving that small changes can have a huge impact.
A new chapter: Money Movers Champions

Recently, we’ve seen banks backtrack on previous climate commitments. We know that the industry continues to profit from investment in areas such as fossil fuels and weapons. At the same time, the cost-of-living crisis has meant that for many of us, decisions about finances are more challenging.
Yet, we are also increasingly connecting our everyday choices to the kind of world we want to live in. We’ve seen boycotts, political rallying and divestment campaigns. Many young people are holding companies accountable for their actions. We want to make positive changes for our communities and for nature, but it can feel difficult to know how to start. This is why talking to people we trust about our money – and its role in building a better world – feels more important than ever.
That’s why Friends of the Earth is launching Money Movers Champions – a new programme supporting people who have previously taken part in the scheme to bring the campaign to new audiences. By hosting workshops in workplaces and community groups, Champions will help those they work with to explore how their money can support a more sustainable future.
How the Champions programme works

Each Champion will be running at least one workshop between now and September, with full support from Friends of the Earth, including resources, grants, digital peer support groups, and more. You can learn more about the Champions Programme here.
The programme is open to past Money Movers participants who want to deepen their impact by sharing their knowledge with others, and encourage more people to take part in the scheme.
Money Movers has always been about peer-to-peer conversation. We know we are more likely to take action when the invitation comes from someone we know and trust. By fostering these conversations, the scheme helps break down barriers around money and sustainability.
A shared commitment to sustainable finance
Triodos Bank is proud to support the Money Movers Champions programme and the wider Money Movers initiative. Like Friends of the Earth, we believe in putting people and planet at the heart of finance. While all programme content is developed independently by Friends of the Earth, our partnership reflects a shared vision: a financial system that works for people and the planet, not against them.
